Durga Puja in Belgium: Dates, Traditions & Where to Celebrate
Your guide to Bengal's biggest festival, now in Brussels for the 13th year
Durga Puja is Bengal's largest religious and cultural festival, marking the Goddess Durga's victory over evil and drawing Bengali communities together each autumn for prayers, music, dance and food. In Belgium, the Bengali diaspora has celebrated Durga Puja for over a decade, with communities coming together each October across the country to recreate the warmth of a pandal far from home.
In Brussels, Sammelani Bangla Durgotshab is the city's longest-running celebration, now in its 13th year. From Saptami to Dashami, the festival brings together prayers and traditional Anjali, evening Aarti, live cultural performances, and free bhog (a blessed vegetarian meal) served to every visitor — Bengali or not.
This year's celebration runs 17–19 October 2026 at New Joepie, Chaussée de Wavre 1236, 1160 Oudergem, Brussels. Entry is completely free and open to everyone. Whether you grew up celebrating Durga Puja or are curious to experience it for the first time, you're warmly welcome to join us.
